A free Dark Skies event is being held at Crayke Sports Club and Village Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday 5 September 2024 – all are welcome.
This is being hosted by Sustainable Crayke who are hoping to have Crayke recognised as a Dark Sky location because it:
- Benefits wildlife.
- Saves energy.
- Improves people’s health and wellbeing.
- Is great for viewing the night sky.
The event is part of the Howardian Hills National Landscape Dark Skies project, and a presentation will explain how to use the best lighting for safety and security but that can also benefit nature, health, and astronomy.
The talk will cover why dark skies matter, what people can do to keep our night as natural as possible, and a beginner’s guide to the night sky.
There will be lighting equipment on show, and telescopes for stargazing outside – weather permitting.
Refreshments will be available, and the bar will be open.
