Road verges for nature

Jun 27, 2024 | News, News - Featured

On Monday 8 July 2024 we ran a free event at Hovingham Village Hall about creating more space for nature in our communities through road verge management.

We have some wonderful species rich ‘special interest road verges’ in the Howardian Hills National Landscape. Participants at the event found out more about these important remnant habitats. They also heard from North Yorkshire Council Highways about their innovative management of these areas, and then went on a site visit within Hovingham village where a change in verge management is leading to an increase in wildlife.

Over 35 people from across the Howardian Hills and its neighbouring communities attended the event. Many parishes and community groups were represented, as well as people attending out of their own interest.
