The Heart of Helmsley project is now officially underway, and is being officially launched on 5 September 2026 when the 4th stage of the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain sets off from the market place.
The £204,000 initiative is being delivered by the Howardian Hills National Landscape Partnership and has been made possible through significant investment from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Mayoral High Street Fund, which has awarded a grant of £149,150 towards the project.
The programme will deliver a range of improvements designed to enhance accessibility throughout Helmsley’s shopping streets and wider town facilities. These enhancements will help create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all users, with particular consideration given to multi-generational families, people with restricted mobility, and those with additional accessibility requirements.
The project’s vision is to support a thriving, vibrant market town where residents and visitors alike can enjoy easy access to local businesses, services and community spaces. By improving accessibility and inclusivity, Heart of Helmsley aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or ability, feels welcome and able to fully participate in the town’s social and economic life.
