Arable Flowers and Wild Bird Seed

This best practice event will improve your understanding of how to deliver Entry Level Stewardship (ELS) and Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) voluntary options.


Birkdale Farm is a 300 acre farm in the Howardian Hills AONB. The farm has embraced environmental management, participating in Countryside and Environmental Stewardship.

The farm grows a variety of different wild bird seed mixtures, floristic margins and rare arable flowers.

Following an introduction to the farm this event will include:

  • Management of ELS options and how to maximize their environmental value
  • Advice from Cornfield Flowers Project on how to manage land for arable flowers and from RSPB on how to get the most out of wild bird seed mixes
  • Advice from Clive Wood from Country Plan LTD on how to grow the various wild bird seed mixes - www.countryplan.co.uk
  • Delivering CFE voluntary options and how to support the Campaign
