2010 International Year of Biodiversity

2010 has been designated International Year of Biodiversity, and people all over the world are working to safeguard this irreplaceable natural wealth and reduce biodiversity loss. This is vital for current and future human wellbeing. We need to do more. Now is the time to act.

Why not carry out a survey of your local pond or watercourse or help with a national survey of ladybirds? Click on www.biodiversityislife.net to find out how you can get involved.

If you need help with wildlife identification the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust website has a selection of information and identification guides to download.

It is important that we involve children as well. The BBC's Breathing Spaces website has ideas on how to make homes for bumblebees and feeders for butterflies!

For local events within the Howardian Hills AONB area see the our Events page for the series of eight Discovery Lectures at Castle Howard Arboretum.
