Backotheshop September Exhibition
The exhibition runs from Saturday 5th September until Saturday 26th September.
The exhibitions come around thick and fast at the Backotheshop Art Cafe in Terrington. Our September exhibition will coincide with our second anniversary, in which time we will have shown the work of over forty Yorkshire artists using a large variety of media.
This Septembers offering is the current body of work by Leeds based visual artist Louise Atkinson.
Louises work has been shown on an international level in Europe and America as well as many collaborative and solo exhibitions here in Yorkshire and she is rapidly gaining a great reputation for her community work throughout Yorkshire.
This exhibition, Old, New, Borrowed, Blue, utilises a range of techniques, reflecting her interest inconcept-related process, and stems from her interest in the way animal symbolism is used in language.
Through incorporating ideas around religion and science, Louise produces prints, photography, textiles andsculpture to express notions of hybridity throughout the ages, eitheras deification or gene technology.
"I was born in a small village near Stonehenge called Odstock. Yes, I am from odd stock. Not long after that I moved to Cyprus and then to Germany on the Dutch border. Now I live in Leeds.
So here I am. What is my name and where do I come from? These questions should not be taken for granted. Everything is in flux. Nothing is fixed. I like the slippages of meaning within language. The thing that Derrida calls Diffrance. In art, as in life, I make decisions based on the way that I feel. I empathise.
Opening hours Tuesday Saturday 10am. 4 pm.
