Community Projects Officer appointed

Maggie Farey has been appointed as Community Projects Officer for the Howardian Hills AONB.

Rural Action Yorkshire applied to the AONB's Sustainable Development Fund for support towards the provision of a Communitiy Projects Officer to cover the entirity of the AONB. Match funding and support have been pledged by Ryedale Strategic Partnership, Ryedale District Council, Hambleton District Council and Rural Action Yorkshire. The post will run for two years (April 2009-March 2011).

Maggie will carry out a broad range of work. some of which will be determined by the communities as her links with them develop. The remit of her post is very wide and there is the scope for it to be led by the needs of the communities.

It is likely to include working with communities to:

  • deliver projects recognised as being of importance in their Parish Plans
  • improve village buildings
  • create/manage wildlife areas, green spaces or allotments
  • provide village/schools arts projects through connections with Yorkshire Rural Arts
  • improve access to services
  • help settlements to work together on wider reaching initiatives that they have as a common interest (possibly submitting joint funding applications)
  • aid their linking with other organisations who can help
  • identify sources of grants and funding
  • develop other appropriate projects and objectives identified by villages, interest groups and individuals
