Junior Ranger Club - holiday activities
Four days of fun activities indoors and outdoors. The sessions introduce those attending to the wildlife, landscape and history of the local area.
Activities are suitable for children aged 5-11 years old.

Themes on offer for Easter 2009 are:
Monday 6th April at Welburn Village Hall
10.00am to 12noon - Treasures, tombs and decomposers
Hunt for mini-beasts in the leaves and under logs and make bugs out of recyclables. Learn about the tombs and burial mounds of the past - what would you have put in yours?
1.30pm to 3.30pm - Take it or Leaf it!
Deciduous or coniferous? How tall is it? These are questions that you'll be able to answer by the end of this session. Blow tree skeletons, take bark rubbings and collect leaves to make tree collages
Tuesday 7th April at Nunnington Village Hall
10.00am to 12noon - Behind the scenes
A glimpse behind the scenes at Nunnington Hall, experience the sights and smells of the past. How did the maid live? What jobs did people do? Crafty fun includes plate decorating and candle holders.
1.30pm to 3.30pm - High flying
Make kites, crystal dragonflies, butterfly prints and flapping fish. A session focussing on flying insects supported by the River Rye and the food chain that relies on them.
Wednesday 8th April at Hovingham Village Hall
10.00am to 12noon - Rocking with geology
Where does local stone come from and how was it formed? Search for fossils in Hovingham. Make a fossil cast to take home.
1.30pm to 3.30pm - Marvellous maps - How not to get lost!
Work in groups as you follow the clues to solve our fun treasure hunt. An introduction to using maps, suitable for all the family.
Thursday 9th April at Hovingham Village Hall
10.00am to 12noon - Spring has sprung
Watch birds as they gather nesting materials and find out how you can help them. Have a go at building your own nest and marbling and decorating eggs.
1.30pm to 3.30pm - Wet and wild
What lives in Hovingham Beck? Dip for creatures and work out what they are as you find out what makes this stream special. Make stained glass window stickers with a watery theme.
All children need to be accompanied by an adult. One adult can supervise up to 8 children.
