Fruit tree grafting workshop - FREE
Ampleforth Abbey Orchard are holding an workshop about fruit tree grafting on 25th March. The workshop is taking place at The Abbey.
Fr. Rainer explains more about the event ......
"We are going to plant a community orchard in Gilling. In conjunction with
this we thought it would be a good idea to introduce gardeners and
home-owners to some tree care. A lot of people who come and visit our
orchards have expressed an interest in pruning and grafting trees etc.
We are putting those things together: last autumn we had two workshops
regarding pruning and now on the 25th of March we will have one on grafting fruit trees.
The workshop is open to all (but particularly to the un-initiated) and is run by a man called Charlie Rustling who is an accomplished teacher in the subject.
It starts at 10.00am and is expected to finish at around 3.00pm. Weather permitting it will take place in the Postgate Room and the Orchard (inside the shed).
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, however, we would expect that people would bring their own packed lunch. (This is mainly for the reason that individual needs and preferences can be met easily this way.)
The workshop will cover an introduction into the why's and in's and out's followed by lunch and a practical session with hands on experience. Tools and materials will be provided.
Although the Postgate room is heated, the orchard shed is not - so some warm clothing to put on in the afternoon is advisable."
