A new season of exhibitions at the Backotheshop Gallery

The new season of exhibitions at the Backotheshop gallery commences on
Saturday 7th February and will feature the work of York's Kate Kenney with
guest pieces by Malcolm Ludvigsen.

Kate is a fine plein-air painter, who originates from Nottingham, saw the
light and moved to Yorkshire where, in her own words:

"Living in beautiful Yorkshire I have coast, moorland, peak and dale at my
fingertips, it is therefore a real pleasure to paint directly from life. I
also find it tremendously exciting: I can see the changing colours and
shapes first hand; the weather has a direct impact on my work as the time
taken to complete my painting is directly influenced by the wind, rain or
sun. Working outside adds the element of surprise - I'm not totally in
control - I work with the landscape, I cannot possibly dominate or control
it. I do not attempt to copy it.

When you look at my paintings I hope you see something beautiful and
distinctive; a memory, a feeling or a desire to see for yourself."

The exhibition runs from Saturday 7th February until Saturday 28th
February 10.00 - 16.00. Admission is free and all are welcome.

This will be the first in an exciting full season of exhibitions, with a new
artist featured on a monthly basis.

There are still one or two opportunities to show your work in our venue so
