Howardian Hills Discovery Project
Devised by the AONB Unit, this scheme is now in its third year. It is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and run in conjunction with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
The Project consists of six days in local schools, working with 7 - 11 year olds during the summer term. Part of the day includes a visit to Sandlands near Howsham - a fen meadow restoration project.
The Junior Ranger Club builds on these school-based days and is open to both a wider age range and all children from in and around the AONB. It incorporates many fun and creative ideas to learn about nature. Direct discovery of creatures through pond dipping, discovering our past through a medieval treasure hunt and finding out about our weather on a wind-themed day were some of the activities on offer this year.
