Living Churchyards Project

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust have been working with the AONB Unit to promote the value of Churchyard Habitats to communities in and around the AONB. YWT's Living Churchyards Project received support from the Howardian Hills AONB Sustainable Development Fund to target its work on the AONB's churchyards.

Every churchyard in the AONB has been surveyed to find out what is currently growing there and a concise report has been produced for each location. As well as listing the species that were found the report outlines possible measures that could be taken to enhance the habitat value of the churchyard.

In addition to the reports YWT and the AONB have organised two events:

The first is an Evening Talk about the wildlife value of Churchyards in the AONB and how this can be enhanced. It is taking place at Terrington Village Hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday 20th February. It is free of charge and open to all who are interested.

The second is an Open Churchyard Event at Amotherby Church on Sunday 30th March (from 2pm-5.30pm). Guided walks are available at 2pm and 3.30pm and displays and advice will be provided all afternoon. It is fee of charge and refreshments are available.
