20 June 2009
Discovery Lecture - Buzzing Bees

Venue: The Arboretum Kew at Castle Howard
Time: 4.00pm to approx 6.30pm

One of five interesting and interactive discovery lectures to be held at The Arboretum Trust during 2009.

Buzzing Bees

Find out about bumble bees, cookcoo bees, honey bees,
social and solitary bees, as well as other insects that look like bees, such as wasps, hover-flies, and even some moths!

We will have a stimulating indoors presentation followed by the cpportunity to walk in the arboretum, looking out for some of these bees and insects. We may even be able to
open and look inside a working beehive, as long as you are
willing to wear the veil and protective bee keepers clothing
provided. Wellington boots are essential for the outdoor session.

With luck, we will have a glass observation hive of
bees, where we can see the queen and her colony at work.

Tickets: £5 adult, £2.50 child. Arboretum members £4 adult, £1.50 child.

Bookings: are now open and are via The Arboretum Centre Ticket Desk. Either pop in (10-4; 7 days per week) or telephone (01653) 648598.

Full details of all five lectures can be found on www.kewatch.co.uk/educationforall.html and are also available at The Arboretum Visitor Centre.
